School Psychologists
New Kent School Psychologists are a resource available to assist students, parents, and staff with concerns regarding academic, social, emotional, and behavioral functioning of students. New Kent County Public Schools has three School Psychologists – Robin McClaine, Katie Tanner, and Nancy Mollner. Robin provides services to George W. Watkins Elementary School and New Kent Elementary School. Katie provides services to New Kent Middle School and New Kent High School. Nancy is employed part-time to assist with all duties, which includes covering the responsibilities related to the ACE Program.
Some of the services provided by the School Psychologist include:
- Assess students on an individual basis to determine what may be interfering with their learning. Evaluations may include assessments of intellectual functioning, social/emotional adjustment, attentional concerns, and academic achievement.
- Communicate results of evaluations to parents, administrators, and teachers and provide recommendations for interventions.
- Consult with parents and staff regarding learning, behavioral, and social/emotional concerns of students.
- Participate as a member of the school’s Child Study team.
- Offer individual and/or group counseling services to students.
- Provide educational workshops for parents and staff.
- Participate in meetings as needed including: IEP, discipline, parent/teacher conferences.
- Provide crisis intervention and participate on school’s crisis team.
